Luuuuke!

I can't believe the Astros traded Luke Scott! What are they thinking?!?

Was it because his father was Darth Vader?

Oh no! I don't particularly care for baseball, but he was my favorite. :(

Seriously! Can we say "brain fart?" Who did they trade him for?

The irony is they traded him (along with two of their pitchers, one of whom was pretty good) for Baltimore Oriole Miguel Tajeda...who happens to be listed in the Mitchell Report for steroid use.

ahem.. guy bsuting into the conversation here... It wasn't a bad trade completely. Am I disappointed to see Tejada's name on the mitchell report, definitly, but it's a report and not a guilty verdict, but rather information supplied by dealers that chose to talk. If those guys are addmitidly sketchy because they sell illegal substances then why should we believe them now? If I said Laurie Johnson does steroids because I sold them to her does that make it true? No, I have to prove it. Unfortunately that will be difficult to do when so much time has passed. For instance, Lenny Dykstra's name was on the report and he hasn't played in probabally 10 years, unless he confesses or they can produce evidence it will never hold in a court of law.

All that being said I was glad to not see Biggio, Bagwell, or Berkman on that report.

Greg,

Well said. Just because someone is in the report does not mean they've actually used steroids. Innocent until proven guilty. However, the fact that Tajeda is listed in the report is not what makes this a bad trade. Here's where, IMHO, Ed Wade messed up. He traded three young players who had years of potential and decent talent for one strong proven player who is nearing the end of his career. It was a trade motivated by instant gratification. I believe the Astros need to be focused on building and developing their team and that includes giving field time to new, young players. That's the only way they'll develop into seasoned, skilled players. That's why I think it was a bad trade. And if Tajeda is convicted of doping, it becomes an embarrassing trade for the Astros as well.

I agree with you and I will definitly miss seeing Patton mature as a player, however I know that Drayton wants to compete every year and the fans don't want to have to sit through 3 years of the rebuilding process because really and truly if that is what the astros want to do they should trade Lee, Berkman, and Oswalt and stock up on young talent. I actually don't think it is that bad of an arrangement. Look at the Marlins, they trade all their good players for multiple prospects out of the competive teams and end up with tomorrows stars. The problem is that there are years where the team is not fun to watch because they lose SO much. With the NL central being such a joke right now it doesn't take much to be competitive. That all being said its still a paper season and we will have to wait for the games to be played because otherwise the Yankees would win it every year and they obviously don't.
