Compliment, or Clueless?

Last week I was chatting with a friend of mine and he made a comment that really stuck with me. I asked him why he was hanging out and talking with me when the girl he really likes was on the other side of the room. He said "because you're the comfortable girl."

Exsqueeze me?! Please explain.

"It's just that you're easy to talk to and I can be myself and be normal around you...and not have to worry about impressing you. You make me comfortable."

Ohhhh how many times I have heard this. And every time it drives me crazy. I told him it makes me uncomfortable and that I don't like having that role. He didn't seem to understand. In fact, he thought that by telling me I was his comfortable girl that he was giving me a compliment.

I don't know where I'm going with this...it's just been on my mind a lot this week. The blog seemed like a good place to unload it. That's all. Carry on.

you know what, though. it is a huge compliment that you have the ability to enable guys to feel safe and not judged or insecure. guys are INCREDIBLY insecure and you have a gift. it's not that you are lacking what that "other girl" has, it's that you HAVE something she doesn't have. unfortunately, this guy is too caught up in his own insecurity to actually see YOU. one tip that worked for me, go for the older men. my husband is 11 yrs older than me. he has been around long enough to mature and accept himself. no guy can accept YOU until he accepts himself. and THAT is a rare thing. it only takes ONE.
